The fast-approaching cold weather in the Hudson Valley can put an early stop to a golfer’s season. Thankfully, Poughkeepsie has its own indoor golfing facility for golfers to practice their skills when the cold weather hits. DC Indoor Golf is equipped with 8 PGA Tour Simulators that feature over 40 courses to choose from. The 15 x 12 foot High Definition screens provide a rich and realistic experience!
Located at 10 Crannell Street in Poughkeepsie, DC Indoor Golf is the ideal place for the golf community and aspiring golfers to go and practice their swings, join a league or have fun with friends. For people like me who love golfing but can’t golf but cant due to season-ending weather, DC Indoor Golf is a nice place to keep the clubs swinging through the off-season.
“Golf is a funny game,” says Dan Pizzarelli, owner of DC Indoor Golf. “You can play for six months and keep improving and all-of-a-sudden the winter hits and now you can’t do anything for three months because of the weather.” DC Indoor Golf provides the perfect remedy to that.
Right as you walk in, you know the theme here is. With a row of full golf bags on the left and a full bar on the right, the message is clear — have fun, play golf, and enjoy some cold brews.
“I have 8 TVs downstairs and 6 more upstairs,” says Pizzarelli. “The radio is always going, football games are on, and beers are flowing. You’re coming to play and to have fun with some golf clubs.”
Past the bar are 4 of the 8 PGA simulators. Tucked away on the left side of the building is a staircase leading up to the second floor. Up here is another bar and the other 4 simulators. There is plenty of space to walk around and see what’s going on around you.
While formulating this review, I had a chance to try out one of the simulators for an up close and personal experience. It was in practice mode so all I had to do was SWING away! Once I walked in, the left and right walls, as well as the ceiling, were dark. This allowed for less distraction and more concentration on the screen in front of me.
The experience was extremely realistic and I was surprised to see how great the high definition graphics were. The grass was green, birds were flying and I could notice the trees blowing in the wind. It wasn’t hard to trick my mind into thinking I was on a real course.
Right away, I was reminded of how accurate the simulator really was. On an actual course, when I swing, my ball either rolls through the grass like a rock skipping over water or I miss entirely. (Yeah, I know that’s really bad.) So, to my surprise, my ball did the same thing in the simulator. Don’t get me wrong; I still had a blast!
According to Pizzarelli, the simulators are about 95% accurate from outside to inside in terms of ball flight, spin and distance. So that coupled with the enhanced visual aspect really give you an exclusive experience.
